I love hearing Ryan Adams sound so young on this! The rock songs on here pack a punch, especially "Drank Live A River" and "If He Can't Have You", but for me, the standout is "Factory Girl". It's so rare to hear a contemporary male songwriter be so openly intimate, and when he sings how he plucks up the courage to smile at his co-worker "until the shift boss says 'get back to work!'" it makes me laugh and feel sad at the same time.
But man does "Matrimony" make me cringe. Cherry, anyone?
This album was made my senior year in high school. Strangely enough, everytime I listen to it, those are the exact memories it invokes, even though I didn't actually hear the album until years later. It's also a great album to listen to on the 4th of July.
I do kinda like Ryan's country band but I've gone off it slightly
Raw Alt. country Drinking music, or Early Ryan Adams, whichever you prefer
Absolutely Bloody Awesome. A Million times better than anything he's done since.
