In 1988, this was still a good Metallica album. Then a torrential flood of progressively worse albums were released by these money grubbing cry babies.
Bob Rock came in and began producing Metallica albums that sounded nothing like the first 3. On ...Justice, the mix is bad and the sound overly polished. Metallica should be rough and mean. James has a shite voice and should not be fooled into thinking he can sing.
Some people blame Jason Newstead for their decline in sonic quality, but it wasn't his fault. He was a star struck kid living his dream. Flotsam and Jetsam (Newstead's previous band) were ok, but nothing compared to Metallica.
As I began, this was a good album in 1988. And if they would have stopped after this album, it may have held up over time. But now that we know AJFA is nothing but an omen of horrendous music to come, it is far from good.
Some people claim Metallica was evolving, changing their sound as they themselves changed as people. If this is the evolution of a musical group, consider me a creationist.
The songs are good, but the production just killed this. I honestly can't listen to Lars' biscuit-tin drums and the lack of bass. Sorry, 'Tallica.
Amazing, absolutely amazing, from the cover design to the name itself, to the songs... freakin' awesome.
Another great album from the masters of metal. Just as good as Master as far as I am concerned. This song has all the brutal melodic guitar lines Metallica made famous with MOP. You really can't go wrong picking up this album.
